"Natural guardianship"

The tests that allow us to define it

1. Air & Terre

The first test reveals what type of ground contact the boxer should adopt. The rest of the natural guard is built on this foundation.

It allows us to know whether the boxer should move on the balls of their feet with a more "airy" style of boxing or with their feet flat, firmly planted on the ground. The gain in stability, reactivity, and punching power is impressive.

2. Cible & Multiple

This second test indicates how the boxer should approach the fight and his opponent to be effective. Some are more effective when they target a specific point to attack, while others find it easier to maintain a broader perspective.

It helps determine whether the boxer should favor rhythmic combinations or precise punches.

3. Peripheral vision & Directional eye

Reactivity differs from one eye to the other. The peripheral eye plays a crucial role in positioning.

The directional eye can be different from the peripheral vision. It allows us to target the opponent precisely and indicates the direction in which to orient ourselves.

4. The arms

Does the boxer have a compact guard, meaning arms in contact with the body, or a wide guard with a space between the arms and the body?

The technique for blocking blows changes depending on the type of guard.

5. The shoulder

Which shoulder should remain forward when boxing in a natural guard?

While keeping one shoulder in front of the other, some will be more comfortable in profile while others will prefer the front-facing position.

Changing the front shoulder results in a shift from the natural guard to the supplementary guard and vice versa.

6.The Strike

This sixth test confirms the position of the hands, in pronation or supination.

It helps you know which shots to favor and which part of your hand to use to block or deflect shots.

7. Fire & Water

What type of boxing can be expressed in the broadest sense of the term?

Should the boxer throw his punches first or second?

8. Power and support leg

Which leg should you use to deliver your most powerful blows?

The power leg changes when the boxer switches from the natural guard to the complementary guard.

The supporting leg is used to reposition oneself on the power leg in order to deliver the most effective blows.

9. Additional care

She is the mirror of natural guarding.

All the features are reversedexcept for the elbows and the leading eye which remain in the same position.
